Loch Duart Limited, operating since 1999, is one of the larger independently owned salmon farming companies in Scotland. Formerly known as Joseph Johnston and Sons, founded in 1826, the company is fully integrated running a hatchery and three sea sites producing 1,600 tons of salmon annually. To ensure its continued success this forward thinking company are diversifying, from its core salmon production, to echinoculture using its existing salmon-farm facilities. They have no R&D facility. Loch Duart Ltd. (winner of the prestigious "Best New Exporter" award in the Trade Partners UK International Business Awards 2001) has a traditional approach to targeting its markets, preferring to contact them directly without using an agent. Being a small, independent company, it relies heavily on this personal contact in order to facilitate its business.
